Elder Corbitt Message

Elder Corbitt Message

March 18 and 25, 2024

Elder Corbitt visited the mission, and his spiritual thought was split into two main parts:1. Seek the Lord's Will through Revelation 2. How do you apply the doctrine of Christ

1. As a missionary, we constantly need to seek the Lord's will. It is his work we are helping with. Elder Corbitt shared with us how we can receive revelation by praying, listening, and then writing down what we receive. He also talked about how important it is to listen to the spirit and to follow it. We also discussed how to tell if what we are receiving was truly from God and how to gain more revelation.

2. This was mostly focused on Alma 5:15 "Do ye exercise faith in the redemption of him who created you? Do you look forward with an eye of faith, and view this mortal body raised in immortality, and this corruption raised in incorruption, to stand before God to be judged according to the deeds which have been done in the mortal body?"

He then taught us 5 steps of applying the doctrine of Christ:

1. Look

We have to look and see what the Lord will have us do and look for opportunities.

2. Forward

Faith always moves forward. We can't be focused on the past or looking to our side by comparing ourselves to others it is through looking forward that we grow most.

3. Eye of faith

Having faith is to believe in something that you can't see, but that is true. Thinking Celestial!

4. See the Lord's Promise fulfilled

Believing and trusting that the Lord's promise will be fulfilled in his due timing and according to your obedience.

5. Imagine yourself receiving the promised blessing

Start with the end in mind

6. Works of Righteousness

Enduring till the end. Keeping your covenants and doing what is required for the promised blessing

All put together, it is looking forward with an eye of faith and seeing/imagining the Lord's promise fulfilled through/according to works of righteousness. Throughout the Book of Mormon, there are examples of exceedingly great faith. For example, in Mosiah Chapter 4, in the first few verses, the people have such exceeding faith that they can gain a remission of their sins through Christ's infinite atonement,  even before Christ came. There are many great examples, and you should keep your eye out for them.

Also, Nathan and his companion contacted 2 different inactive members to have them attend church. One was a couple that started coming back to church. The other was a man who was praying if he should return to church, that he was feeling a void in his life. Nathan and Elder Pearson text this member while he was praying and asking the Lord if he should go back to church. They asked him if he would like to attend church with them today. It was an immediate answer to a prayer and both considered it a small miracle.
